Abstract

The present work carries out a legal-historical analysis of the legal position of women in Roman law. The document investigates the situation of women both in the legal sphere and in everyday life. For this research, the work reviews every stage of Roman women's life from childhood to old age, examining their legal capacity and power to act in each of them. In addition, it looks into the virtues of the Roman role model woman and the process by which these virtues enter into crisis towards the end of the republican stage. This process of social change will be accompanied with the modification or even elimination of certain legal figures that affect women. The analysis of this process will explain the gradual emancipation of the female sex. The document concludes by analyzing the manifestations by which the inequality of women in relation to the male sex is evidenced, and then it further analyzes those manifestations that, after a social change, demonstrate a certain liberation of women throughout the history of Rome.
