Abstract
Football in Spain is not going through a healthy economic-financial situation, which has been critically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, being detrimental to the stable economic condition Spanish clubs had in the recent years. The aim of this paper is to analyze the economic-financial situation of LaLiga clubs as a whole, by using financial ratios, balance sheet and net results as main tools. In order to do so, we will set up a conceptual framework based on the scientific literature published until today. At the same time, Spanish football is compared to the Premier League, and we will also mention the successes of the NBA business model for the final proposal of solutions. It is concluded that LaLiga clubs are not profitable because they have excessive ordinary expenses and a high level of debt, therefore we will be proposing viable solutions as a resolution to the impact caused by the pandemic in order to consolidate the economic recovery after the pandemic.
