POLÍTICAS DE LA IDENTIDAD. LA CUESTIÓN RACIAL EN ESTADOS UNIDOS Y EL CASO DE BLACK LIVES MATTER.
Abstract
In 2020, following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a policeman, millions of people protested in the streets of the United States, the main claim being the situation of discrimination suffered by the African-American population on a constant basis. The hypothesis of this paper is that this political movement called Black Lives Matter, capable of uniting a large number of people, is based on identity politics, which is an indispensable premise for the articulation of any political movement. To demonstrate this hypothesis, the theoretical body of identity politics will be analyzed, as well as the so-called Critical Race Theory that underlies the de facto basis of the movement: systemic racism in the United States. The limitations posed by identity politics in that they are based on individual experiences will also be studied. Finally, one of the greatest risks of identity politics will be analyzed, which is the use of its philosophical basis for less progressive purposes, in this case, the All Lives Matter movement configured as an anti-identity politics.
