Inversión Socialmente Responsable en Private Equity

Abstract

The implementation of ESG criteria in business strategies has been increasingly gaining importance over the years, to the point of becoming a requirement for the development of most businesses. Many research papers have tried to give categorical definitions of concepts such as Socially Responsible Investment or ESG criteria, without reaching anything conclusive. The lack of taxativity regarding the conceptual framework that concerns this framework seems to have produced a disagreement when it comes to detailing potential strategies for success. Even so, it seems clear that there is a positive relationship between investment decisions and ESG criteria. The latter, coupled with the growing interest of investors in this subject, has made it imperative to study these strategies in more depth. This research paper aims to be descriptive and to confirm the aforementioned assumptions through the study of literature and case studies related to the subject. To this end, the line of argument will begin by analyzing the evolution of the application of ESG criteria in Private Equity, as well as the impact they actually have on investments. This last point is of particular interest because the basis of the research is the opinion of real investors on this issue. Finally, the potential future challenges presented by this approach will be discussed. After the development of the research, the aim is to have a global vision of the implementation of these criteria in Private Equity funds in order to be able to provide valuable recommendations.
