Mirada Cualitativa del Desperdicio Alimentario en Madrid

Abstract

The data show that one out of every three foodstuffs produced in the world ends up in the garbage and an average household in Madrid throws away 31 kilos of food a year, which means an average of 150 euros wasted per person each year. This is a high amount, which is why a study by the Economics, Business and Sustainability Research Group (E-SOST) at Comillas Pontifical University for the NGO Enraíza Derechos has attempted to investigate the causes of this behavior in the capital.

The report "A qualitative look at food waste in Madrid", dives into the causes of this behavior. Victoria Labajo, professor of Economics at Comillas ICADE and one of the researchers who prepared the report, emphasizes that the objective was "to understand the phenomenon of food waste in Madrid households in order to guide more effective actions, carried out by different social agents and aimed at mitigating its multiple negative impacts on society and the environment.
