Abstract

The aim of this work is to find traces of the doctrine of God's mercy in the life and works of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. We present a definition of mercy that we can work out against the background of an analysis of the New and Old Testaments, the teaching of the Church and the testimony of Saint Faustina Kowalska. We show the life story of Saint Ignatius and his sources of inspiration. We find that the practice of mercy through word, prayer and concrete actions was present in his life. We also analyse the saint's works looking for traces of mercy in them. We find them in all the works analysed. In particular, in the Spiritual Exercises. We also devote a special place to showing the role of trust in God that characterised Ignatius. We consider trust as an element of the doctrine of mercy.
