Abstract

This study analyses the different internationalization strategies for olive oil companies in China. Given the maturity of the Spanish olive oil market, the increasing awareness of health worldwide, and a context of globalization that boosts the communication of customs as well as know-how and techniques, the internationalization of olive oil towards non-traditional markets is seen as a good bet for the future. Within these, China seems to have the highest potential and therefore it requires further investigation. Due to the peculiarities of the Chinese market, together with the need of promoting a volume demand that is not yet developed, the study proposes an alternative for Spanish olive oil packers that want to internationalize in a way different to exportation, which consists on the expansion of the business model.
