LA REDEFINICIÓN DEL ORDEN FINANCIERO GLOBAL POR LOS BRICS+

Abstract

The Bretton Woods Agreements marked a turning point in the international financial order. They led to the establishment of the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency. Since then, there have been several instances in which the possibility of changing the existing financial dynamic has been theorized. However, it seems that the BRICS+ countries are the only ones truly making progress in this matter.

The BRICS+ present themselves as a group of emerging powers striving to create a multipolar international financial order that fairly and equitably represents their aspirations. To achieve this, they have put forward various options aimed at giving a voice to the Global South and rebalancing the power structure that has existed for decades. Their projects are ambitious and directly challenge the hegemonic position held by the United States, which is backed by the strength of its currency. Aware of the risks posed by dependence on the U.S. dollar, they propose alternatives that warrant careful study.

However, the BRICS+ is aN heterogeneous group, and its diversity could HINDER the achievement of its goals. Additionally, the international landscape is turbulent, with numerous ongoing challenges that may affect the progress of their initiatives and the consolidation of their institutions. This paper will analyze the BRICS+ within the global financial and economic context, examining their projects and their feasibility.
