Aspectos estructurales en las novelas de Juan de Flores

Abstract

El trabajo estudia la narrativa sentimental española de los siglos XV y XVI a través de las novelas de Juan de Flores, autor que reelabora motivos caballerescos, mitológicos y moralizantes en una estructura dialogada y epistolar. El análisis pone de relieve la tensión entre la herencia medieval y la innovación renacentista, así como el uso de tipologías narrativas que combinan idealismo amoroso, alegorías mitológicas y reflexión ética. Se examinan obras como Grisel y Mirabella o Grimalte y Gradissa, destacando la función de los personajes femeninos, la presencia del discurso moral y la configuración de un modelo narrativo híbrido. El estudio concluye que las novelas de Flores constituyen un eslabón fundamental en la evolución de la ficción sentimental hacia la novela moderna.

This article examines the Spanish sentimental narrative of the 15th and 16th centuries through the novels of Juan de Flores, an author who reworks chivalric, mythological, and moralizing motifs within dialogic and epistolary structures. The analysis highlights the tension between medieval legacy and Renaissance innovation, as well as the use of narrative typologies that combine courtly love, mythological allegories, and ethical reflection. Works such as Grisel y Mirabella and Grimalte y Gradissa are studied, with special attention to the role of female characters, the presence of moral discourse, and the shaping of a hybrid narrative model. The article concludes that Flores’s novels represent a crucial step in the evolution of sentimental fiction toward the modern novel.
