| dc.description.abstract | This paper presents the development of a market-making tool designed to analyse different strategies implemented in Polymarket prediction markets. The study focuses on comparing the behaviour of a fixed-quote (naive) model against three adaptive variants (heuristic, Bayesian, Bayesian+VPIN), which are capable of adjusting their bid and ask prices according to the state of the order book. To this end, real-world data is collected, and from this, various market microstructure variables are calculated, such as the mid-price, the spread, the visible depth of the order book, the imbalance and the mid-price drift. Using these metrics, flow signals are constructed, including a directional signal, a VPIN-type approximation and an adaptive Bayesian signal. Subsequently, the four strategies to be employed by the system are designed; to this end, all will be contained within the same backtesting environment, so that they operate using the same time series of data and under the same conditions. To evaluate the performance of each strategy, comparisons will be made of the cumulative and final inventory, the P&L achieved, the probability of execution, the quoted spread and the ex post adverse selection rate. The results obtained from the simulation indicate that adaptive strategies tend to perform better than the fixed variant. The Bayesian model stands out above the others, as it offers the best balance between profitability and exposure in the samples analysed. However, the analysis also shows that greater complexity in the quotation system does not necessarily guarantee better performance. Therefore, the evaluation of a market-making model must take into account, as a whole, the profitability generated, inventory management and the quality of executions. | en-GB |
