Abstract

This Master's Thesis analyses the Cruce methodology, developed by David Trebolle, which structures the path towards financial freedom in three phases (structuring, accumulation and distribution). The Cruce is defined as the moment when the passive income generated by an individual's wealth equals their recurring expenses. The study pursues a twofold objective, to deepen the methodology within personal finance and to assess whether its principles can be transferred to project finance through a 50 MW onshore wind farm in Aragon. The analyses rely on simulations over monthly historical S&P 500 data (1974-2024) deflated by Spanish CPI, complemented by deterministic models and sensitivity analyses. The results show that, in the structuring phase, dip buying adds value through the liquidity management it enables, not through timing the purchase correctly. In accumulation, passive management clearly outperforms active (a 4-year delay to the Cruce due to fees), structural leverage is called into question by margin call risk, and Lump Sum outperforms Dollar Cost Averaging and market timing in most historical windows. In distribution, the rising equity glide path (from 40% to 80% in equities) achieves an 85% survival rate, against 56% for a 100% equity portfolio. In the wind farm, the project IRR (4.6%) falls below the WACC due to renewable cannibalisation, the mezzanine tranche destroys value for the shareholder, and the SPV's trapped cash emerges as the structural equivalent of the emergency fund. The thesis concludes that the Cruce principles withstand the test of historical evidence and are partially transferable to project finance.
