Tres principios ayudan a entender el contenido de este libro: a) la lectura de los salmos individuales y del Salterio (su conjunto) son inseparables; b) los salmos del Salterio están cosidos y conectados entre sí; c) el Salterio es un libro de meditación personal. De ahí que en él destaque sobremanera el papel del orante en el camino que recorre al rezar los salmos del Salterio.
