Factores determinantes del afrontamiento adaptativo en el personal sanitario interviniente en el COVID 19.

Abstract

Resumen:

Introducción. La enfermedad por Covid-19 ha provocado un gran impacto en la salud mental de la población y en concreto, del personal sanitario. Los profesionales de la salud que trabajaron durante la pandemia experimentaron síntomas de ansiedad, depresión y estrés postraumático. Afecciones que podían verse reducidas gracias al afrontamiento adecuado, el apoyo social, el descanso y las emociones positivas entre otros.

Objetivo. En el presente trabajo se pretende conocer qué factores predicen un afrontamiento adaptativo en el personal sanitario tras dos años de pandemia.

Método. Se recogió una muestra de 102 participantes a los que se les aplicó la escala COPE-28 para medir la variable dependiente de estrategias de afrontamiento y las escalas del PANAS, EMAS, PSS, y CESQT para evaluar las variables independientes de Afecto positivo, Apoyo social, Estrés y Fatiga laboral respectivamente. A continuación, se realizó un análisis descriptivo de las variables sociodemográficas además de un análisis de correlación para conocer si las variables están relacionadas entre sí. Y, por último, se llevó a cabo una regresión lineal por pasos hacia adelante para conocer qué variables predicen y con qué peso, el afrontamiento adaptativo de la muestra de sanitarios.

Resultados. Se obtuvo un alto uso de las estrategias de aceptación, afrontamiento activo, apoyo emocional, planificación y apoyo social, encontrándose que el afecto positivo, el apoyo social, el estrés y la fatiga laboral eran variables explicativas de las diferentes estrategias de afrontamiento adaptativas. Además, se obtuvo un nivel medio en las variables de afecto positivo, y estrés y puntuaciones altas en la mayoría de las estrategias de afrontamiento adaptativas y en apoyo social, en concreto por parte de personas relevantes, además de puntuaciones altas en fatiga laboral.

Discusión. Las estrategias de afrontamiento en las que los participantes puntuaron más alto (aceptación, afrontamiento activo, apoyo emocional, planificación y apoyo social) forman parte de las estrategias de afrontamiento centradas en el problema que tienden a ser las más utilizadas (Arrogante, 2016) y las que generan un mayor bienestar psicológico (Kavčič, 2022) además de ser las más comúnmente utilizadas en el ámbito laboral. Dentro de las implicaciones clínicas, se concluyó en la importancia de fomentar el apoyo social y psicológico en el personal sanitario, así como las emociones positivas para lograr un afrontamiento adecuado en los profesionales.Abstract:

Introduction. The Covid-19 disease has had a great impact on the population’s mental health and specifically on that of health personnel. Health professionals who worked during the pandemic experienced symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. Conditions that could be reduced thanks to adequate facing process, social support, rest and positive emotions among others.

Objective. In the present dissertation, we intend to know which factors predict an adaptive facing process in health personnel after two years of pandemic.

Method. A sample of 102 participants was collected to whom the COPE-28 scale was applied to measure the dependent variable of facing strategies and the PANAS, EMAS, PSS, and CESQT scales to evaluate the independent variables of positive affect, social support, stress and work fatigue respectively. Next, a descriptive analysis of the sociodemographic variables was carried out in addition to a correlation analysis to find out if the variables are related to each other. And, finally, a forward stepwise linear regression was carried out to find out which variables predict, and with what weight, the adaptive coping of the sample of health workers.

Results. A high use of acceptance, active coping, emotional support, planning and social support strategies was obtained, finding that positive affect, social support, stress and work fatigue were explanatory variables of the different adaptive coping strategies. In addition, a medium level was obtained in the variables of positive affect, and stress and high scores in most adaptive coping strategies and in social support, specifically by relevant people, in addition to high scores in work fatigue.

Discussion. The coping strategies in which the participants scored the highest (acceptance, active coping, emotional support, planning and social support) are part of the problem-focused coping strategies that tend to be the most used (Arrogante, 2016) and those that generate greater psychological well-being (Kavčič, 2022) in addition to being the most commonly used in the workplace. Within the clinical implications, it was concluded that it is important to promote social and psychological support in health personnel, as well as positive emotions to achieve adequate coping in professionals.
