Etiología del TDAH: aproximación desde la neuropsicología

Abstract

El Trastorno por Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad (TDAH) es una problemática altamente compleja, siendo, además, uno de los trastornos con mayor prevalencia en la población infantil y adolescente en la actualidad. Posee una naturaleza multifactorial, lo que implica que existen una variedad de alteraciones estructurales en el encéfalo, mayoritariamente en el cerebro, asociadas a la causa de este trastorno, así como la influencia de posibles variables genéticas y ambientales. Se ha encontrado que las principales estructuras afectadas por el TDAH son la corteza prefrontal y corteza motora primaria, los ganglios basales, el cerebelo, el cuerpo calloso, la amígdala y el córtex cingulado anterior. Debido a ello, los pacientes de TDAH comúnmente manifiestan alteraciones funcionales que interfieren con su funcionamiento cotidiano, afectando a las áreas social, laboral o académica. Se ha determinado que dichas alteraciones se presentan principalmente en la atención, las funciones ejecutivas, la memoria, la motivación y la inhibición motora.The Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a series of highly complex difficulties, moreover, being one of the most prevalent disorders within child and adolescent population at present. It possesses a multifactorial nature, which implies the existence of a variety of structural alterations in the encephalon, mainly within the brain, associated to the cause of this disorder, along with the influence of possible genetic and environmental variables. It has been found that the main affected areas by ADHD are the prefrontal cortex and primary motor cortex, the basal ganglia, the cerebellum, the corpus callosum, the amygdala and the anterior cingulate cortex. Due to this, patients with ADHD commonly exhibit functional alterations, which interfere with their daily functioning, affecting the social, occupational, or academic areas. It has been determined that said alterations appear principally in attention, executive functions, memory, motivation, and motor inhibition.
