Abstract

El artículo analiza el legado epistolar del hispanista napolitano Eugenio Mele, destacando su papel como figura clave en el estudio de las relaciones culturales entre España e Italia. A través de más de 1200 cartas, se reconstruye su labor filológica, sus colaboraciones con bibliotecas y académicos, y su participación en debates literarios e históricos. La correspondencia revela no solo su erudición y generosidad intelectual, sino también el contexto sociopolítico que influyó en sus investigaciones, como las guerras mundiales y el ascenso y caída del fascismo. El estudio subraya el valor documental de los epistolarios como fuente para comprender la historia cultural y literaria.

This article explores the epistolary legacy of the Neapolitan Hispanist Eugenio Mele, highlighting his pivotal role in the study of cultural relations between Spain and Italy. Through more than 1,200 letters, the author reconstructs Mele’s philological work, his collaborations with libraries and scholars, and his involvement in literary and historical debates. The correspondence reveals not only Mele’s erudition and intellectual generosity but also the sociopolitical context that shaped his research, including the world wars and the rise and fall of fascism. The study emphasizes the documentary value of epistolaries as a source for understanding cultural and literary history.
