Efectividad del valor y constitución del entorno en Max Scheler

Abstract

La noción de “entorno” (Umwelt) según la concibe Scheler —como una estructura subjetiva, tendencial o práctica, superpuesta a la objetividad del mundo (Welt)— requiere, para ser comprendida, la previa dilucidación de una idea que ha solido recibir poca atención: la de “efectividad” del valor (Wirksamkeit), puesto que es lo valioso “efectivo” sobre mí lo que forma parte del entorno de la vida práctica humana. En este artículo me propongo rescatar dicho concepto técnico y demostrar su relevancia decisiva para el problema de la constitución del entorno. En particular, que Scheler distinga entre el “valor” objetivo y su “efectividad” subjetiva permite separar su teoría de la vida práctica de todo irracionalismo. De manera secundaria, defiendo también esta opción frente a la alternativa crítica de Dietrich von Hildebrand.

To understand the Schelerian concept of environment (Umwelt) —which refers to a subjective structure of conative or practical nature, superimposed on the world’s ob-jectivity (Welt)—, it is necessary to elucidate the meaning of a lesser-known category: that of value “effectiveness” (Wirksamkeit). Only what is “effective” on me by virtue of its values belongs to my practical environment. I intend to revive this technical concept and show its crucial relevance to the problem of the environment constitution. In partic-ular, the distinction between the objective “value” and its subjective “effectiveness” separates Scheler’s theory from any kind of irrationalism. Secondarily, I consider rea-sonable to defend this position against Dietrich von Hildebrand’s critical alternative.
