San Pablo VI, la liturgia y la Virgen María: la exhortación apostólica «Marialis cultus»

Abstract

El texto presenta a san Pablo VI como una figura clave del periodo posconciliar: culminó el Concilio Vaticano II y promovió la reforma litúrgica, en cuyo contexto se entiende la exhortación apostólica Marialis cultus (2 de febrero de 1974), orientada a la “recta ordenación y desarrollo” del culto a la Virgen María. Se explica que el documento responde a tensiones de la época (crisis de devoción mariana y debates sobre la reforma litúrgica) y se describe su estructura en tres partes: (1) María en la liturgia y como modelo de la Iglesia; (2) renovación de la piedad mariana con enfoque trinitario/cristológico/eclesial y orientaciones bíblica, litúrgica, ecuménica y antropológica; (3) indicaciones sobre Ángelus y Rosario. A lo largo del artículo se subraya que el culto mariano debe conducir a Cristo, fortalecer la vida cristiana y armonizar piedad popular y liturgia

he text presents Saint Paul VI as a key figure in the post-conciliar period: he brought the Second Vatican Council to its conclusion and promoted liturgical reform, within which the apostolic exhortation Marialis cultus (February 2, 1974) should be understood, aimed at the “proper ordering and development” of devotion to the Virgin Mary. It explains that the document responds to the tensions of the time (a crisis in Marian devotion and debates surrounding liturgical reform) and describes its three-part structure: (1) Mary in the liturgy and as a model of the Church; (2) renewal of Marian piety with a Trinitarian/Christological/ecclesial focus and biblical, liturgical, ecumenical, and anthropological guidelines; (3) indications regarding the Angelus and the Rosary. Throughout, the article stresses that Marian devotion should lead to Christ, strengthen Christian life, and harmonize popular piety with the liturgy.
