Entre lo grande y lo pequeño: la herencia ignaciana de Hugo Rahner en el papa Francisco

Abstract

El artículo analiza la importancia de la sentencia non coerceri maximo, contineri tamen a minimo, divinum est en el pensamiento del papa Francisco y su interpretación desde la espiritualidad ignaciana. Aunque atribuida erróneamente a san Ignacio, esta máxima fue reinterpretada por el teólogo jesuita Hugo Rahner como expresión sintética de la mística ignaciana, caracterizada por la tensión cristiforme entre la apertura al Dios siempre mayor y la encarnación concreta en la historia. A través de la mediación de Miguel Ángel Fiorito, esta lectura rahneriana influyó decisivamente en la formación espiritual y teológica de Jorge Mario Bergoglio. El estudio muestra cómo Francisco asumió y reelaboró esta clave en su comprensión del discernimiento, la magnanimidad y el modo encarnado de ejercer el gobierno y el ministerio pastoral, integrándola en una síntesis personal que atraviesa su magisterio pontificio.

The article analyzes the importance of the statement non coerceri maximo, contineri tamen a minimo, divinum est in the thought of Pope Francis and its interpretation from the perspective of Ignatian spirituality. Although mistakenly attributed to Saint Ignatius, this maxim was reinterpreted by the Jesuit theologian Hugo Rahner as a synthetic expression of Ignatian mysticism, characterized by a Christ-like tension between openness to the ever-greater God and concrete incarnation in history. Through the mediation of Miguel Ángel Fiorito, this Rahnerian reading had a decisive influence on the spiritual and theological formation of Jorge Mario Bergoglio. The study shows how Francis adopted and reworked this key in his understanding of discernment, magnanimity, and the incarnational way of exercising governance and pastoral ministry, integrating it into a personal synthesis that runs throughout his pontifical magisterium.
