La eugenesia

Abstract

La eugenesia es un movimiento tan desconocido como trascendental en la historia de la humanidad. Ha sido responsable de miles de esterilizaciones y asesinatos a lo largo del siglo XX, de aquí proviene su connotación peyorativa. En este trabajo se presenta todo su recorrido histórico, además de su enfoque actual: la eugenesia liberal, el mejoramiento génico. Se analizará tanto el perfeccionamiento somático, como el germinal, presentando polémicas implícitas como el uso de embriones.

Se abre un debate ético sobre el desenlace que la eugenesia tendrá en la sociedad, la moralidad en la elección de los “hijos de diseño”, las consecuencias de objetivar el concepto de mejora o la posible brecha social que culminará en la división de la raza humana. ¿Debemos renunciar a la erradicación de enfermedades por el miedo al descontrol génico?¿Seremos capaces de que las mejoras génicas no se conviertan en el capricho de unos pocos? ¿Es ético diseñar a tus hijos?

Son muchas las preguntas que nos asaltan, la incertidumbre es una constante en la historia humana, la duda es intrínseca a nuestra esencia. De ahí la necesidad del debate y la reflexión, haciendo que la eugenesia se convierta en la llave de la utopía humana.

Eugenics is a movement as unknown as transcendental in the history of humanity. It has been responsible for thousands of sterilizations and murders during the twentieth century, this is where its pejorative connotation comes from. In this proyect we analyze all its historical trajectory, in addition to its current approach: liberal eugenics, human enhacement. Both somatic and germinal improvement will be analyzed, being submitted for discussion implicit controversy such as the use of embryos.

It opens an ethical debate about the ending that eugenics will have in society, the morality in the choice of "children of design", the consequences to objectify the concept of improvement or the possible social gap that will culminate in the division of the human race. Should we renounce the eradication of diseases due to the fear of genetic uncontrol? Will we be able to make genetic improvements not become the whim of a few? Is it ethical to design your children?

There are many questions that jump us, doubt persists in human history, doubt is intrinsic to our essence. Therefore, the necessity of a constructive debate and reflection, making eugenics the key to human utopia.
