Homoxualidad y familia

Abstract

La homosexualidad es una cuestión presente, directa o indirectamente, en la vida de la mayoría de las familias; sin embargo, muchas de ellas no saben qué hacer o qué pensar frente a esta realidad. Así, este artículo plantea tres situaciones en las que la familia puede enfrentarse a su propia visión de la sexualidad, el género y su capacidad de acogida y respeto: la realidad de un hijo que no se ajusta a las expectativas de género imperantes y sufre acoso homófobo en su entorno, especialmente escolar; la realidad de un hijo que durante su adolescencia o juventud revela a la familia su orientación o, como se dice coloquialmente, «sale del armario»; y la realidad de un hijo que decide construir una pareja homosexual estable o tener hijos con ella. Partiendo del catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, que recoge la importancia de no marginar a las personas homosexuales, y de las palabras del Papa Francisco «¿Quién soy yo para juzgar?», el artículo se sitúa en perspectiva de apertura, de respeto y acogida y de lucha contra el odio, la discriminación y la exclusión, más allá de la orientación sexual de la persona.

Homosexuality is a topical issue that is directly or indirectly present in the lives of the majority of families, yet many are unsure of what to do or what to think when faced with this reality. Thus, this paper presents three situations that a family may face as opposed to their own perspective on sexuality, gender and their capacity to accept and respect: the reality of a son who does not adapt to the prevailing gender expectations and suffers homophobic abuse in his surroundings, notably at school; the reality of a son who during adolescence discloses his sexual orientation to his family or, in colloquial terms, comes out of the wardrobe; and the reality of a son who decides to build a stable homosexual relationship or have children with a partner. Drawing from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which highlights the importance of not ostracizing homosexuals, and from the words of Pope Francisco, «Who am I to judge?», the paper focuses on the perspective of openness, respect and acceptance, of defeating hatred, discrimination and exclusion, moving beyond the sexual orientation of an individual.
