"Ségou" : la mirada de Maryse Condé

Abstract

Maryse Condé nos muestra a través de su novela histórica Ségou la realidad sobre el colonialismo, la esclavitud y la religión de los siglos XVIII y XIX. Los rasgos culturales y de identidad de la autora se ven reflejados en esta obra para hacernos sentir y descubrir tanto la francofonía como la «antillanidad» que tanto caracteriza a esta gran escritora. En un continente que nos es, en principio, ajeno se va a desarrollar la historia que más adelante analizaremos para conocer los aspectos que revelan esta identidad francófona. Comprobaremos cómo una actitud de presagio de la autora hará que nos involucremos plenamente en la vida de Ségou para ser partícipes de la repercusión tanto de la historia como de la cultura del colonialismo.

In her historical novel, Ségou, Maryse Condé reveals the history of colonialism, slavery, and religion of the 18th and 19th centuries. The author’s identity and cultural characteristics are reflected in this work in order to make people feel and discover both the Francophonie and the Antillanité, which characterise the renowned author. The story takes place in a continent which, at first sight, seems foreign to the reader. We will analyse this land later on in order to learn more about the intrinsic aspects of the French-speaking identity. Afterwards, how the author's accurate forecasts make the reader feel part of the story make the readers feel part of the history of Ségou and perceive the impact of the colonialism culture.
