Abstract

La vida de Francisco de Borja ha concitado un interés especial por la riqueza de facetas,funciones, cargos y dignidades que se acumularon en la misma. La evolución del proceso de canonización,culminado en 1671, favoreció que sus biógrafos buscasen y encontrasen sin demasiada dificultad los aspectos que estimaron conveniente significar en cada momento con un objetivo utilitarista. Desde que se produjo su fallecimiento, sobre la figura de Borja se entrelazaron perspectivas e intereses, que no siempre fueron coincidentes, vinculados a cuestiones internas de la Compañía de Jesús, a las relaciones entre los monarcas hispanos y los pontífices, así como a la propia familia Borja y, concretamente, a la Casa de Gandía. La evolución de los rasgos destacados en sus biografías permite analizar la ilación entre los mismos.
