La mística en la teología del siglo XX: Karl Rahner y Hans Urs von Balthasar

Abstract

Este artículo estudia el sentido que tiene la mística en la teología de Karl Rahner y Hans Urs von Balthasar, ayudando así de forma indirecta al dis- cernimiento teológico en torno al fenómeno místico, tan de moda en la sociedad actual. A ambos les une una comprensión de la mística en su referencia al Mis- terio. Para Rahner ella nace del encuentro inmediato y personal con el misterio incomprensible de Dios y ha de ser vivida en un mundo donde la secularidad y el pluralismo se han convertido en el humus vital. Para Balthasar la mística es la vida cristiana en total obediencia al misterio de Dios bajo la forma de seguimien- to de Cristo, participando así en su obediencia al Padre por el bien de aquellos que el Hijo único, como Primogénito de todos los hombres, no se avergüenza de llamar hermanos.

This article studies the meaning of the mysticism in the theology of Karl Rahner and Hans Urs von Balthasar, thus indirectly helping theological discern- ment around the mystical phenomenon, so fashionable in contemporary society. Mystery is the reference of the mystic for both of them. For Rahner it is born of the immediate and personal encounter with the incomprehensible mystery of God and must be lived in a world where secularity and pluralism have become the humus vital. For Balthasar the mystic is the Christian life in total obedience to the mystery of God in the form of following Christ, thus participating in his obedience to the Father for the sake of those whom the Son, as the Firstborn of all men, is not ashamed of calling brothers.
