El papel del intérprete de Lengua de Signos en la Comunidad de Madrid, en los ámbitos educativo, sanitario y jurídico

Abstract

Resulta innegable la diferencia cultural que existe entre las personas sordas y oyentes, desde la manera de percibir el mundo hasta las barreras comunicativas que surgen entre ambos colectivos. Un gran número de personas sordas necesitan un intérprete de Lengua de Signos (LS) para poder llevar a cabo con normalidad su vida en sociedad, y, por lo tanto, el papel que este desempeña es crucial para romper el silencio y dar voz y voto a las personas que hacen uso de sus servicios. Sin embargo, ¿hasta qué punto es consciente la sociedad madrileña de la importancia de la figura del intérprete de LS? El presente trabajo analizará el papel del intérprete de Lengua de Signos Española (LSE) en la Comunidad de Madrid en los ámbitos de la educación, la sanidad y la asistencia jurídica tanto desde la perspectiva del colectivo sordo como la de los intérpretes para intentar dar respuesta a esta pregunta y examinar uno de los casos de diversidad funcional más comunes en nuestro país.

The cultural difference that exists between deaf and hearing people is undeniable, from the way of perceiving the world to the communicative barriers that arise between both collectives. A large number of deaf people need a Sign Language (SL) interpreter to be able to carry out their life in society normally, and, therefore, the role it plays is crucial to break the silence and give voice and vote to the people who make use of its services. However, to what extent is Madrid society aware of the importance of the figure of the SL interpreter? This paper will analyse the role of the Spanish Sign Language (LSE) interpreter in the Community of Madrid in the fields of education, health and legal aid from both the perspective of the deaf collective and that of the interpreters to try to answer this question and examine one of the most common cases of functional diversity in our country.
