Los procesos de retraducción en "Agnes Grey" (Anne Brontë, 1847)

Abstract

La primera traducción de una obra literaria siempre invita a nuevas traducciones ya que la traducción no es ajena al paso del tiempo y existen unos factores metatextuales y textuales que favorecen la necesidad de retraducir. El presente trabajo estudia el proceso de recepción de una obra literaria tomando como referencia la novela inglesa "Agnes Grey" (Anne Brontë, 1847). A pesar de que la recepción de la obra en España no ha sido extensa, la revalorización de la autora y de la propia novela, las decisiones editoriales, el peso del canon y, por último, las normas socioculturales han motivado su retraducción a lo largo de estos años. A partir de una búsqueda documental, se ha podido averiguar que el proceso de recepción de "Agnes Grey" en España hasta la fecha abarca desde 1944 a 2018. Se han escogido la primera edición de "Agnes Grey" (Buenos Aires, Poseidón, 1944) y la última (Madrid, Edimat Libros, 2018) para realizar un análisis textual puesto que el gran espacio temporal entre ambas nos permitía conocer la influencia del paso del tiempo en las traducciones. El análisis contrastivo se ha basado en el estudio de las unidades menores de significación usando las herramientas que proponen Vinay y Dalbernet y el estudio de las unidades mayores a nivel macrotextual. Los resultados del análisis nos permiten concluir que la traducción de 1944 destaca por la retorización, el envejecimiento y los cambios de significado, pero ambas son adecuadas desde el punto de vista de la estética y del canon imperante en el momento de la traducción.

The first translation of a literary work always leads to new translations since translation itself is not oblivious to the passage of time, and there are metatextual and textual factors that stimulate the need to retranslate. This study examines the process of reception of a work of literature taking as reference the British novel "Agnes Grey" (Anne Brontë, 1847). Even though the reception of the work in Spain has not been extensive, the revaluation of the author and the novel itself, the editorial decisions, the weight of the canon, and finally socio-cultural norms have triggered its retranslation over the years. Thanks to a documentary research, it has been possible to determine that the process of reception of Agnes Grey in Spain to this day goes from 1944 to 2018. The first edition of "Agnes Grey"(Buenos Aires, Poseidón, 1944) and the last one (Madrid, Edimat Libros, 2018) were chosen for a textual analysis since the great temporal lapse between them allowed us to understand the influence of the passage of time in the translations. The comparative analysis was based on the study of small units of meaning using the techniques proposed by Vinay and Dalbernet, and of large units of meaning at a macro-textual level. The results of the analysis lead us to the conclusion that the translation of 1944 stands out for its retorization, ageing and shifts of meaning, although both are appropriate from the point of view of aesthetics and the prevailing canon at the time of each translation.
