Key Challenges in Swiss Private Secondary Education in the 21st Century

Abstract

La reforma de los planes de estudio nacionales mediante el aumento de los estándares convencionales no logrará contrarrestar los desafíos que los estudiantes enfrentan ahora o los que enfrentarán en el futuro cercano. Algunos sistemas educativos se han resistido al cambio porque la educación es demasiado importante para experimentar. Hay otra forma de ver esto: en un mundo que cambia rápidamente, la educación es demasiado importante para quedarse atrás. En todo el mundo hay un creciente movimiento global para lograr la visión de la educación del siglo XXI. Más allá de las restricciones del currículo nacional, el desafío no es simplemente descubrir qué actividades específicas contribuyen a fomentar las habilidades de los estudiantes del siglo XXI, sino también descubrir cómo integrar esas actividades en el trabajo regular de las escuelas, cómo alinearlas con el currículo existente, los métodos de enseñanza, y evaluaciones de alumnos y profesores. A este respecto, se han identificado dos desafíos principales: el compromiso de aprendizaje y la implementación de las habilidades del siglo XXI.

Reforming national curriculums by raising conventional standards will not meet the challenges students now face or the ones they will meet in their near future. Some education systems have been resistant to change because education is so important to experiment with. There is another way to look at this: in a rapidly changing world, education is too important to be left behind. Around the world there is a growing global movement towards achieving the vision of 21st century education. Beyond national curriculum constraints, the challenge is not simply figuring out which specific activities contribute to fostering 21st century student s skills, but also finding out how to integrate those activities into the regular work of schools, how to align them with existing curriculum, teaching methods, and students and teacher assessments.
