Social Research on Migration: Methodologies and Case Studies

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es avanzar y crear conciencia a través de estudios de casos e investigaciones sobre el trabajo realizado en el Instituto Universitario de Estudios sobre Migraciones (IUEM) de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas. Primero, discutiré el trabajo realizado por el primer instituto de investigación sobre migraciones en España: el IUEM. En segundo lugar, mostraré dos métodos de investigación social: análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo. En tercer lugar, presentaré algunos ejemplos de proyectos y estudios de casos realizados por el IUEM que unen la realidad de la migración entre África y Europa. Cuarto, explicaré algunos elementos importantes para desarrollar un verdadero liderazgo apostólico ignaciano en nuestro trabajo social. Quinto, mostraré como ejemplo algunos nuevos proyectos e iniciativas de trabajo en red del IUEM a nivel estatal, continental y global. Finalmente, presentaré algunas notas concluyentes y algunas propuestas de investigación.

The aim of this work is to advance and raise some awareness through case studies and research of the work done at the University Institute of Studies on Migrations (Instituto Universitario de Estudios sobre Migraciones - IUEM) of Comillas Pontifical University. First, I will discuss the work done by the first research institute on migrations in Spain: The IUEM. Second, I will show two methods of social investigation: qualitative and quantitative analysis. Third, I will present some examples of projects and case studies conducted by the IUEM which bridge the reality of migration between Africa and Europe. Fourth, I will explain some important elements to develop a genuine Ignatian apostolic leadership in our social work. Fifth, I will show as example some new projects and initiatives of networking from the IUEM at state, continental and global level. Finally, I will present some conclusive notes and some research proposals
