Olvido y cuidado en la mística sanjuanista

Abstract

Proponemos en nuestra reflexión un doble itinerario para acercarnos a uno de los aspectos clave de la memoria sanjuanista. Se trata de dos itinerarios solo aparentemente paradójicos, pues en realidad son complementarios. El primero versa sobre el olvido de sí entendido como no apego a pensamientos y recuerdos. Dicho olvido tiene una cara activa y otra pasiva. Esta última propiamente remite al olvido místico y la necesaria alteridad. El segundo itinerario estudia el cuidado de sí desde la tradición clásica, para desembocar en la vulnerabilidad y la necesidad de atención y cuidado que reclama todo lo humano. En último término, solo la inermidad del amor tiene poder para asumir y trascender la indigencia de nuestra humanidad.

In our reflection here we propose a two-fold approach to one of the key aspects of memory in Saint John of the Cross. We shall first discuss forgetting oneself understood as not being attached to thoughts and memories. This forgetfulness is both active and passive, and in its passive form refers to mystical oblivion and necessary otherness. We shall then examine self-care according to classical tradition, which leads to vulnerability and the need for the attention and care required by all that is human. Ultimately, it is only a disarmed love that is able to assume and transcend human weakness.
