Fe y literatura: una unión divina. Análisis literario-espiritual del escritor J.R.R. Tolkien

Abstract

J.R.R. Tolkien es, sin duda, uno de los autores más conocidos de nuestro tiempo y uno de los más leídos del siglo XX. Se conocen muchos aspectos sobre él, pero quizá la influencia de su fe en su literatura no sea tan conocida. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en observar, describir y analizar aquellos elementos religiosos que se pueden observar en las obras literarias y el pensamiento del escritor británico del siglo XX J.R.R. Tolkien. El trabajo se divide fundamentalmente en dos partes: primero, se analizará el pensamiento del autor a través de lo que él mismo expresó sobre los cuentos de hadas, cómo estos encierran Verdad y no sirven solo para entretener. A continuación, se hará un análisis de las obras de Tolkien, más concretamente el cuento de hadas Hoja de Niggle y, por otro lado, gran parte del legendarium de Tolkien, que es la mitología que él inventó, describiendo los elementos espirituales y religiosos que en dichas obras se encuentran según lo que pensaba el propio Tolkien y las observaciones de diversos estudiosos.

J.R.R. Tolkien is undoubtedly one of the best-known authors of our time and one of the most widely read authors of the 20th century. Many aspects of him are known; however, not many people know about the influence of his faith in his literature perhaps. The aim of this paper is to observe, describe and analyze those religious elements that can be observed in the literary works and thought of the 20th century British writer J.R.R. Tolkien. The work is basically divided into two parts: first, the author's thought will be analyzed through what he himself expressed about fairy tales, how they contain Truth and are not only to entertain. Then, Tolkien's works will be analyzed, more specifically the fairy tale Leaf by Niggle and, on the other hand, much of Tolkien's legendarium, which is the mythology he invented, describing the spiritual and religious elements found in these works according to what Tolkien actually thought and the observations of various scholars.
