Sucedáneos de la alegría

Abstract

El artículo presenta y revisa de forma crítica las aportaciones de la Psicología Positiva sobre las emociones positivas en general y sobre la alegría en particular. Se cuestiona la tendencia a hacer de la alegría y la felicidad un bien de consumo y se revisan los peligros de asumir un modelo normativo de la alegría: la implícita patologización del dolor y el sufrimiento, las consecuencias negativas de la «tiranía de la actitud positiva» y, en tercer lugar, el peligro de exagerar el individualismo y fomentar una ilusión de control que, paradójicamente, acaba obstaculizando a la misma alegría.

This article provides a critical presentation and review of the influence of Positive Psychology on positive emotions as a whole and on happiness in particular. It questions the trend of turning happiness and joy into consumer goods and reviews the dangers of adopting a regulatory model of happiness: the implicit pathologization of pain and suffering, the negative consequences of the «tyranny of positive thinking» and, thirdly, the danger of aggrandizing individualism and promoting an illusion of control that, paradoxically, comes to stand in the way of genuine happiness
