La desigualdad, a la luz de Populorum Progressio

Abstract

Los autores de este libro hacen una relectura a la luz del presente histórico de la encíclica social Populorum Progressio ( 1967), publicada por el papa Pablo VI en la estela del concilio Vaticano II (1962-1965).

La publicación de aquel texto tuvo un importante impacto en el mundo católico y en la sociedad en general. El sumo pontífice intentó visibilizar los desafíos socioeconómicos que surgían en el mundo con el espíritu de apertura del concilio. Analizó de lleno en el tema del desarrollo, que en aquellos años cobraba fuerza en todo el mundo, e hizo hincapié en que este no puede ser solo económico, sino integral -de todas las dimensiones del ser humano- y solidario- de todas las sociedades y países. Los autores de este libro son profesores y profesoras que pertenecen al Grupo de Pensamiento Social Cristiano de UNIJES (centros superiores de la Compañía de Jesús) y a la Red Humanitas (grupo internacional de investigación del campus de excelencia Aristos Campus Mundus). Esta obra es el resultado de su trabajo conjunto e interdisciplinar. En ella, el lector encontrará un exhaustivo estudio de Populorum Progressio y del pensamiento del papa Montini, así como novedosos planteamientos sobre nuestra actualidad a través del espíritu renovador de esta encíclica.

The authors of this book make a rereading in light of the historical present of the social encyclical Populorum Progressio (1967), published by Pope Paul VI in the wake of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965).

The publication of that text had an important impact on the Catholic world and on society in general. The Supreme Pontiff tried to make visible the socioeconomic challenges that arose in the world with the spirit of openness of the council. He fully analyzed the issue of development, which in those years was gaining strength throughout the world, and emphasized that this cannot be only economic, but integral -of all the dimensions of the human being- and solidarity- of all societies and countries. The authors of this book are professors who belong to the Christian Social Thought Group of UNIJES (higher centers of the Society of Jesus) and the Humanitas Network (international research group of the Aristos Campus Mundus campus of excellence). This work is the result of their joint and interdisciplinary work. In it, the reader will find an exhaustive study of Populorum Progressio and the thought of Pope Montini, as well as new approaches to our present time through the renewing spirit of this encyclical.
