The intellectual structure of behavioral strategy: a bibliometric study

Abstract

La estrategia conductual es un subcampo relativamente nuevo de la gestión estratégica y, sin embargo, sus raíces se remontan a los orígenes de la disciplina. Su rápido crecimiento en los últimos años, el interés creado en la comunidad investigadora y la diversificación de enfoques exigen la organización de la estructura intelectual desarrollada por los académicos. Este artículo tiene como objetivo proporcionar la estructura intelectual del tema en base a la investigación publicada durante todo el período cubierto por la base de datos del Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). Mediante el uso de bibliometría y técnicas de análisis de datos, se determinan los trabajos clave en el desarrollo del subcampo, los grupos que determinan las aportaciones conceptuales y los trabajos puente que sirven de nexo común entre ellos. Para ello, se ha utilizado el análisis de co-citaciones para capturar las relaciones. A continuación se ha realizado un escalado multidimensional (MDS) y un análisis factorial de componentes principales (PCFA) para mostrar los grupos de obras que constituyen las diferentes líneas de investigación. El estudio ofrece información útil sobre la disciplina y conclusiones para futuros desarrollos en el tema tanto para investigadores como para profesionales.

Behavioral strategy is a relatively new subfield of strategic management and yet its roots go back to the origins of the discipline. Its rapid growth over the last few years, the interest created in the research community, and the intrinsically diversified approaches call for organization of the intellectual structure developed by scholars. This paper aims to provide the intellectual structure of the subject based on the published research for the entire period covered by the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) Database. By using bibliometric and data analytic techniques, we determine the key works in the development of the subfield, the groups that determine the conceptual contributions and the bridging works that provide the common bond between them. To achieve this, we have used co-citation analysis to capture relationships. It is followed by multidimensional scaling (MDS) and a principal component factor analysis (PCFA) for displaying the groups of works that constitute the different lines of research. The study offers useful insights in the discipline and conclusions for future developments in the subject for researchers and practitioners alike.
