Proyecto editorial en deporte femenino: Propuesta de traducción de Game Changers: The Unsung Heroines of Sports History de Molly Schiot

Abstract

Game Changers: The Unsung Heroines Of Sports History, de Molly Schiot, es un libro de temática deportiva que trata sobre historias de mujeres. Este trabajo propone su traducción, en primer lugar, porque la literatura deportiva se ha considerado durante muchos años como literatura de segunda, pero un repaso a la literatura española a lo largo de la historia demuestra que el deporte nunca ha sido ajeno a ella. En segundo lugar, porque, con frecuencia, las experiencias, logros y fracasos de las mujeres a lo largo de la historia se han ignorado, olvidado, o no se han representado de manera fiel a la realidad. Y el ámbito del deporte no es una excepción, pues una revisión de la representación de la mujer deportista en la literatura española lo constata. En tercer lugar, porque, a pesar del crecimiento del deporte femenino en los últimos años, todavía queda mucho camino por recorrer para equilibrar el terreno de juego, y parte de este pasa por reconocer a todas esas mujeres que cambiaron las reglas del juego del deporte femenino, y por dar a conocer sus historias de lucha, éxitos y fracasos.

Este trabajo lleva a cabo un análisis traductológico tanto a nivel macroestratégico —tipo de texto en cuanto a su función, género y discurso— como microestratégico —estrategias sintácticas, semánticas y pragmáticas— a partir de la traducción de unos fragmentos seleccionados del libro con el fin de identificar las principales dificultades que puede suponer traducir una obra de este tipo y ofrecer soluciones a las mismas.

Game Changers: The Unsung Heroines Of Sports History, by Molly Schiot, is a sports-themed book about women's stories. This project proposes its translation firstly because sports literature has often been regarded as second-rate literature. However, a review of Spanish literature throughout history reveals that sport has never been alien to it. Secondly, because the experiences, achievements, and failures of women have too often been ignored, forgotten, or misrepresented. The field of sports is no exception, which is confirmed by an analysis of the way women have been represented in Spanish sports literature. Thirdly, because despite the development of women’s sport in recent years, there is still a long way to go to level the playing field, and that involves recognizing all these game changers and making their fight, struggle, and success known. This project carries out a translation analysis both at the macro-strategic —type of text regarding its function, genre, and discourse— and micro-strategic —syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic strategies— levels. The excerpts from the book used for the analysis have been selected with the objective of identifying the main difficulties that may accompany the translation of these kinds of texts and offering solutions for them.
