Santa Hildegarda de Bingen: una mujer sabia

Abstract

Hildegarda de Bingen, proclamada doctora de la Iglesia por el papa Benedicto XVI, ofrece un modelo de mujer sabia que es importante conocer dada la carencia de este tipo de referentes femeninos en nuestro mundo académico. Es representativa de una doble e importante tradición de conocimiento femenino: el saber visionario, que ha sido históricamente característico de las mujeres, y el estudio erudito desarrollado durante los siglos medievales en los espacios monásticos, concretamente en el monacato benedictino, que brindó a monjes y monjas posibilidades no jerarquizadas de acceso a los saberes eclesiásticos antes de que las universidades segregasen al sexo femenino desde el siglo XIII.

Hildegard of Bingen, proclaimed a doctor of the Church by Pope Benedicto XVI, offers a model of wise woman that is important to know because the lack of this type of references about women in our academic world. She is representative of a double and important tradition of feminine knowledge: visionary knowledge, which has historically been characteristic of women, and the scholar study developed during the medieval centuries in the monastic spaces, specifically in the Benedictine monasticism, where monks and nuns had possibilities of equality in the access to knowledge before the universities segregate women since the 13th century.
