Differentiation of Self, Mate Selection, and Marital Adjustment: Validity of Postulates of Bowen Theory in a Spanish Sample

Esta investigación investiga las relaciones entre Diferenciación de sí mismo, selección de pareja y ajuste marital En una muestra española de 118 parejas heterosexuales (N D 236). En Línea con la teoría de Bowen, una mayor diferenciación de Mayor similitud en la diferenciación de los niveles de auto. Predijo un mayor ajuste marital. Contrariamente a la teoría, las diferencias de género se observaron en la S-DSI, con los hombres mostrando mayores puntuaciones de diferenciación total que las mujeres, y vínculos entre la diferenciación del yo y el compañero. No se observaron. Implicaciones para la terapia y se discuten las sugerencias para futuras investigaciones con la S-DSI.

This research investigates relationships between differentiation of self, mate selection, and marital adjustment in a Spanish sample of 118 heterosexual couples (N D 236). In line with Bowen theory, greater differentiation of self and greater similarity in partners differentiation of self levels each predicted greater marital adjustment. Contrary to theory, gender differences were observed on the S-DSI, with males showing higher total differentiation scores than females, and hypothesized links between differentiation of self and mate selection were not observed. Implications for therapy and suggestions for future research with the S-DSI are discussed.
