A Study in Meaning".
dc.description.abstract | The text talks about Owen Barfield, one of the lesser-known members of the Oxford literary group Inklings, which included J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Barfield was one of the founders of this group and provided the theoretical basis for their ideas through his work "Poetic Diction. A Study in Meaning". In "The Harp and the Camera", Barfield reflects on the theory of knowledge and warns against the reductionisms of scientism and materialism. Barfield opposes the wind harp to the dark chamber as two different conceptions of the process of perception. In "Dream, Myth and Philosophical Double Vision", Barfield highlights the importance of states of consciousness, including dreams and myths, as sources of consciousness in a philosophy abandoned by positivism. In "Matter, Imagination and Spirit", Barfield reflects on ontology and gnoseology, investigating the meaning of the word "matter" and the Cartesian split. In summary, the text shows how Barfield developed an intellectual proposal that combines epistemology, anthropology, and mythology to create a philosophy of imagination influenced by Christian Neoplatonism and Rudolf Steiner's Anthroposophy. | en-GB |
