Ucrania: apuntes sobre una historia en la tormenta

Abstract

La historia de Ucrania se extiende más allá de un milenio, bajo ritmos de constante naturaleza dramática. La tierra bañada por el Dniéper ha sido de manera endémica un reñidero entre grandes potencias; algo favorecido en gran parte por la geografía. Pese a ello, en ese dilatado espacio de tiempo, han cristalizado, con distintas formas, unidas entre sí, cultura y formas políticas de extraordinaria riqueza e innegable pujanza. El presente artículo hace un recorrido por los avatares de siglos sucesivos. En esa mirada, presta especial atención a algunos nombres propios que definen la historia de Ucrania, a los procesos de larga duración y .-en concreto- a la compleja relación entre Ucrania, su cultura y Rusia, con la invasión de 2022 como trágico e inevitable elemento de referencia.

The history of Ukraine stretches back over a millennium, with dramatic events being a constant throughout. The land of the Dnieper has historically been the focus of struggles between greater powers, with its prime geography making it highly sought after. Despite this, in this short period of time, a wide range of cultures and political models were able to take form, displaying an extraordinary richness and an undeniable strength. This article takes a look at the main players in the country over the course of its existence. From this perspective, it pays particular attention to figures that played a definitive role in the history of Ukraine, to long-term processes and, more specifically, to the complex relationship between Ukraine, its culture and Russia, culminating in the 2022 invasion as a tragic and inevitable point of reference.
