Las instrucciones para misioneros del jesuita Agustín de Castro (1643)

Abstract

Agustín de Castro recogía en un breve escrito basado en su experiencia la praxis jesuítica en las misiones interiores. La importancia que la Compañía de Jesús otorgaba a esta actuación queda reflejada en que un jesuita tan destacado, ocupante de la Cátedra de Políticas en los Estudios Reales y predicador real, se emplease en el desempeño de esta actividad. Si bien esta labor se realizó en seguimiento de las órdenes cursadas por los Generales desde Roma y el cambio operado en el ámbito misional en el primer tercio del siglo XVII, hemos de entender la implicación de Castro relacionada con su vinculación al Santo Oficio y a la vigilancia del surgimiento de desviaciones de la ortodoxia y moral católica.

Agustín de Castro wrote a brief account of Jesuit praxis in the interior missions based on his own experience. The importance that the Society of Jesus attached to this activity is reflected in the fact that such an outstanding Jesuit, occupant of the Chair of Politics in the Royal Studies and royal preacher, was employed in this activity. Although this work was carried out following the orders issued by the Generals from Rome and the change that took place in the missionary sphere in the first third of the 17th century, we must understand Castro's involvement in relation to his links with the Holy Office and the monitoring of the emergence of deviations from orthodoxy and Catholic morality.
