The current global landscape, characterized by the COVID-19 pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine, and escalating geopolitical tensions, has exposed vulnerabilities in global supply chains, prompting a reevaluation of traditional models. This editorial summarizes a Special Issue focusing on the relationship between manufacturing and value chains in response to these disruptions. The imperative of reshoring, bringing production closer to home or neighboring countries, has gained traction as companies seek to enhance resilience, reduce risk, and improve sustainability amidst ongoing disruptions. Key drivers include increased resilience, reduced transportation costs, enhanced quality control, and improved labor relations. Digital transformation, particularly in line with Industry 5.0 principles, plays a crucial role in facilitating the integration and management of dispersed production facilities, thereby enhancing the effectiveness and resilience of reshoring efforts. Reshoring represents a paradigm shift towards glocalization, balancing global efficiency with local responsiveness and resilience. It contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing transport emissions, promoting sustainable manufacturing practices, and stimulating environmentally responsible consumer behavior. Moreover, reshoring stimulates local economies, creates jobs, and strengthens community resilience. Additionally, reshoring enhances national security by minimizing reliance on foreign suppliers in critical industries. Overall, reshoring, coupled with digital transformation and a glocal approach to supply chain management, offers a pathway to building more agile, adaptable, and sustainable supply chains to meet the challenges of the future.en-GB
