Dignidad humana y bioética de la Inteligencia Artificial

Abstract

El autor plantea la creciente influencia de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) en diversos ámbitos, particularmente en la salud, y la urgencia de abordar su impacto desde una perspectiva ética y bioética antes de que se vuelva imprescindible. También analiza cómo la dignidad humana, un principio central en la bioética católica y en la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos, debe ser el eje fundamental en la regulación de la IA. El uso de IA en salud plantea desafíos éticos, como los sesgos en los datos y el riesgo de injusticia. Se subraya la necesidad de desarrollar una "algorética", o ética de los algoritmos, que promueva transparencia, responsabilidad y respeto a la dignidad humana. Además, destaca el impacto de la IA en la relación médico-paciente, el ejercicio de la profesión médica y la toma de decisiones terapéuticas, donde se advierte que la IA no debe sustituir el juicio humano. Finalmente, se enfatiza la necesidad de formar a médicos y profesionales de la salud en el uso ético de la IA, integrando principios bioéticos en su formación para asegurar que la tecnología sirva al bien común sin comprometer la dignidad humana.

This article takes a look at the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in various spheres, particularly in health, and discusses the urgency of considering its impact from the ethical and bioethical standpoints before it becomes ineluctable. The author also analyses why human dignity, which is a central principle in Catholic bioethics and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, should form the cornerstone of AI regulation. The use of artificial intelligence in health poses ethical challenges, such as data biases and the risk of inequity. In connection with this, the need is highlighted to develop an “algorethics”, or ethics of algorithms, which will favour transparency, responsibility, and respect for human dignity. Likewise, this article foregrounds AI’s impact on the physician-patient relationship, on the practice of the medical profession, and on the making of treatment decisions, pointing out in this respect that AI should not substitute human judgement. Lastly, the need is emphasised to train physicians and other health professionals in the use of artificial intelligence, integrating bioethical principles in their training in order to ensure thResponsibilityat technology will serve the common good without compromising human dignity.
