Una vuelta a las virtudes teologales

Abstract

.En el marco de este Año Jubilar dedicado a la esperanza, a este artículo pretende aproximarse a la esperanza en su condición de virtud teologal. En un primer momento clarificaremos el concepto virtud y el por qué decimos que la esperanza es una virtud, más en concreto, una virtud teologal (I). En un segundo momento trataremos de mostrar cómo el pensar a la esperanza como una «virtud teologal», lejos de espiritualizarla, pone de manifiesto que la gracia se encarna en lo más íntimo de la condición humana, al mismo tiempo que la abre a un horizonte trascendente (II). Para concluir, nos detendremos en dos características constitutivas de esta virtud: su capacidad de iluminar de sentido el sinsentido y de regalar futuro a los desesperanzados (III).

In the context of this Jubilee Year dedicated to hope, Spes non confundit, this article aims to approach hope as a theological virtue. First, we will clarify the concept of virtue and why we say that hope is a virtue, more specifically, a theological virtue (I). Second, we will try to show how conceiving of hope as a «theological virtue», far from spiritualizing it, reveals that grace is embodied in the most intimate part of the human condition, while simultaneously opening it to a transcendent horizon (II). Finally, we will focus on two constitutive characteristics of this virtue: its capacity to illuminate meaninglessness with meaning and to give a future to the hopeless (III).
