Proyecto educativo para pacientes portadores de colostomía y sus familiares

Abstract

Introducción: Las cifras de personas diagnosticadas de cáncer colorrectal aumentan cada año, esto provoca el incremento de pacientes con colostomía. Esta se crea quirúrgicamente permitiendo el paso de un fragmento de colon al exterior del abdomen, este procedimiento puede ser temporal y permanente. En general tras unos días ingresado en el hospital el paciente vuelve a domicilio y debe realizarse él los cuidados del estoma. El tiempo de ingreso suele ser insuficiente para que el paciente adquiera unos conocimientos justos y aceptables que le ayuden a tener un adecuado manejo de su estoma. Por esta situación la educación para la salud inmediata es imprescindible para los pacientes, siento en este contexto la enfermera estomaterapeuta una figura clave para promover y apoyar el manejo y el idóneo autocuidado. Objetivos: mejorar el manejo de la colostomía por parte de los pacientes y sus familiares y/o cuidadores a partir de conceptos básicos, entrenamiento de habilidades y la preparación psicológica para el cambio de vida, de nutrición y de salud sexual. Metodología: un proyecto educativo basado en seis sesiones destinadas a pacientes y sus familiares y/o cuidadores, estas serán proporcionadas en el hospital por diferentes profesionales sanitarios como enfermeros estomaterapeutas, fisioterapeutas, psicólogos y sexólogos. Implicaciones para la práctica enfermera: los cuidados y su manejo es algo fundamental para los pacientes ostomizados por ello se ha desarrollado el papel de enfermera estomaterapeuta. Esta debe ayudar a los pacientes y resolver las dudas que les puedan surgir a lo largo de este proceso.

Introduction: The numbers of people diagnosed with colorectal cancer are increasing every year, this causes the increase of patients with colostomy. This is created surgically allowing the passage of a fragment of the colon to the outside of the abdomen, this procedure can be temporary or permanent. In general, after a few days in the hospital, the patient returns home and must take care of the stoma himself. The time of admission is usually insufficient for the patient to acquire a fair and acceptable knowledge that will help him to have an adequate management of his stoma. For this reason, immediate health education is essential for patients, and in this context the stoma nurse is a key figure to promote and support the management and proper self-care. Objectives: to improve the management of colostomy by patients and their relatives and/or caregivers from basic concepts, skills training and psychological preparation for life change, nutrition and sexual health. Methodology: an educational project based on six sessions for patients and their relatives and/or caregivers, these will be provided at the hospital by different health professionals such as stomatotherapy nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists and sexologists. Implications for nursing practice: care and management is fundamental for ostomized patients, which is why the role of the stomatherapy nurse has been developed. The nurse should help patients and resolve any doubts that may arise during this process.
