The figure of the auditor in the economic world is one of the main pillars on which investor confidence is based, and for that reason a correct regulation of the profession is essential to avoid cases like those experienced during the last years. Although it is true that after these cases reforms have been carried out in the legislation, the one who makes the law makes the trap, and therefore it is very difficult to reach a perfect regulation in the scope of the audit profession. Cases like Enron, Gowex, Pescanova have splashed the economic history of the 20th century and all of them have in common the presence of an auditor who did not know or could not detect the failures and manipulations of the companies they audited. Therefore, this work will focus on analyzing how such scandals have been useful in order to regulate the failures that the audit legislation could not avoid. | en-GB |
