dc.description.abstract | This paper analyses the evolution of Chinese investment in the Spanish real estate and tourism sectors. It shows how, in a brief period of time, China has moved from a planned economy to a socialist market economy establishing itself as the second largest economy worldwide. Furthermore, it is the largest issuer of tourist and its citizens ranked first in international tourism expenditure. Spain, as a tourist leader, must adapt its tourist model from the traditional sun and beach offer to one focused on the artistic and cultural heritage in order to capture Chinese tourists. In relation to the real estate sector, it has already recovered from the impact of the economic crisis of 2008 and is now growing due to the impact of foreign house purchases. Looking ahead, it is necessary to encourage Chinese investment in Spain but always ensuring the receiving State ́s interests. | en-GB |
