La traducción del humor en el mundo digital: una aproximación a los memes de Internet

Abstract

Hoy en día, las interacciones de los jóvenes en las redes sociales se basan en el intercambio de pequeños chistes con formato de imagen, lo que se conoce como memes. El meme es un elemento de humor que circula por Internet y las redes sociales. Este trabajo surge de un interés de plantear una hipótesis para entender las implicaciones culturales de los memes y para saber cómo traducir la carga irónica y humorística que contienen los memes de internet adecuándose a cada cultura. Asimismo, se pretende resolver cuestiones como: ¿cuáles son las estrategias que se adoptan para la traducción de memes? ¿Utilizan los jóvenes expresiones en inglés aunque no las entiendan?¿Cómo se traslada la carga cultural y humorística del meme de un idioma a otro? Se pretende contribuir a los estudios de traducción audiovisual aplicados más concretamente a internet y las redes sociales. Se pretende resolver las incógnitas de las preguntas formuladas anteriormente y, si fuera posible, redactar una serie de estrategias de traducción de memes que podrían ser la base de futuros estudios.

Today, young people's interactions on social media are based on the exchange of small jokes in image format, known as memes. The meme is an element of humor that runs on the Internet and social media. This work arises from an interest in posing a hypothesis to understand the cultural implications of memes and to know how to translate the ironic and humorous charge contained in internet memes to suit each culture. It also seeks to resolve questions such as: what strategies are adopted for the translation of memes? Do young people use English expressions even if they do not understand them? How is the cultural and humorous content of meme transferred from one language to another? Our aim is to contribute to audiovisual translation studies applied more specifically to the Internet and social media. The objective is to solve the uncertainties of the questions posed above and, if possible, to draft a series of meme translation strategies that could be the basis for future studies.
