Abstract
The term Venture Philanthropy was originally coined by John D. Rockefeller III in 1969, when he defined it as a “new adventurous approach to unpopular social causes”. It emerged after an increment in public awareness about the lack of social aid, provided by governmental institutions and other classic financing methods, to social causes that involved uninviting return of profits.
Thus, the aim of this paper is to analyze the concept of Venture Philanthropy from its origins in the New Continent, until its integration in the Spanish society, analyzing simultaneously the actual interest that already existed at an European level.
