La inversión extranjera directa de China en América Latina y el Caribe 2000-2019

Abstract

Los lazos económicos, políticos e institucionales entre América Latina y el Caribe, y China se han ido estrechando en paralelo con el rápido crecimiento del país asiático, lo que le ha llevado a tener un papel destacado en el conjunto de la economía mundial. Además, China es una potencia emergente que ha experimentado una apertura global y que se ha convertido en una de las mayores fuentes de flujos de capital en el mundo. El objetivo de este trabajo de investigación es analizar el flujo de Inversión Extranjera Directa (IED) de la República Popular de China en América Latina, así como en el Caribe, desde comienzos del siglo XXI hasta el año 2019. Del mismo modo, se examina la evolución de la IED de China en el mundo, prestando especial atención a los patrones de inversión en la región América Latina y el Caribe (ALC). Dentro de estos patrones, se estudian los factores determinantes que motivan esa salida de IED china en la región, analizando los principales sectores y zonas geográficas a las que se dirige. Particularmente, se busca una relación práctica entre el contenido de la investigación y el desarrollo de la industria petrolera argentina, en la que China y su IED juegan un papel esencial.

Economic, political, and institutional ties between Latin America and the Caribbean, and China have been growing closer, in parallel with the rapid growth of the Asian country, which happened to play a prominent role in the world economy. In addition, China is an emerging power that experienced a global opening and has become one of the largest sources of capital flows in the world. The objective of this research work is to analyze the flow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the People's Republic of China in Latin America, as well as in the Caribbean, from the beginning of the 21st century until the year 2019. Similarly, the evolution of China's FDI in the world is examined, paying special attention to investment patterns in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region. Within these patterns, we study the determining factors that motivate the outflow of Chinese FDI in the region, analyzing the main sectors and geographical areas to which it is directed. Particularly, a practical relationship is sought between the content of the research and the development of the Argentine oil industry, in which China and its FDI play an essential role.
