Germanic mythology is currently experiencing an unprecedented boom in the audiovisual media, especially among young audiences. Heroes such as Thor, Odin and Siegfried populate TV series and comic books, films and video games. When and why is this interest in Germanic mythology emerging in the media? Starting with Richard Wagner's interpretation of the Nordic myths in the late 19th century with his operatic tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung, the contributions in the volume Germanic Myths in the Audiovisual Culture examine the reception of Germanic myths in the audiovisual media during the 20th and 21st centuries. The German publisher Gunter Narr has been commissioned to publish this work in English and German.
