Influencia del inglés en países con un pasado colonial : La India y Sri Lanka

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene por objetivo analizar la herencia lingüística del inglés en sociedades que comparten un pasado colonial común británico. Dicho análisis se centrará en la relación que puede existir entre el uso de este idioma y su influencia como herramienta política en países del sudoeste asiático, concretamente la India y Sri Lanka. La investigación pretende examinar de forma analítica la historia de estos países y su situación social y política actual, con la finalidad de identificar las políticas coloniales y poscoloniales que lograron trascender el aspecto lingüístico y utilizar el idioma a favor de una causa política determinada. La utilidad de este estudio será entender mejor la posición que ocupa el inglés en estas sociedades y cómo a través de factores como la globalización el uso de este idioma ha ejercido a su vez una importante influencia en la dinámica social y educativa de ambos países.

The present investigation aims to analyse the linguistic heritage of the English language in societies that share a common British colonial past. This analysis will focus on the relationship that may exist between the use of this language and its influence as a political tool in Southwest Asian countries, in particular India and Sri Lanka. The research sets out to analytically examine the history of these countries and their current social and political situation, in order to identify the colonial and post-colonial policies that were able to transcend the linguistic dimension and use language in favour of a specific political cause. The usefulness of the investigation will be to better understand the role of English in these societies and how, through factors such as globalisation, the use of this language has in turn exercised major influence on the social and educational dynamics of both these Asian countries.
