Las traducciones de "Todos eran mis hijos" (Arthur Miller, 1947)

Abstract

Este estudio analiza las traducciones al español de la obra de Arthur Miller Todos eran mis hijos, impulsado por el interés en la obra de Miller y su limitada pero significativa historia de traducciones en España. A pesar del éxito teatral de Miller, sus obras se han traducido relativamente poco al español. Abordando el vacío existente en la comprensión de las diferencias estilísticas y contextuales entre las traducciones, la investigación se centra en la traducción de Enrique Llovet (MK Ediciones) de 1988 y la traducción de Miguel de Hernani (Editorial Losada) de 2004. Al realizar una comparación exhaustiva con el texto original en inglés, este estudio clasifica las diferencias en unidades de significado menores y mayores. Metodológicamente, se trata de localizar varias ediciones, crear un cuadro de recepción y realizar análisis textuales detallados, contextualizando histórica y culturalmente las traducciones desde los años cincuenta hasta los ochenta. La principal conclusión es que las traducciones reflejan importantes variaciones estilísticas y pragmáticas influidas por sus contextos sociopolíticos, lo que subraya la importancia de tener en cuenta tanto los factores lingüísticos como los extralingüísticos en los estudios de traducción.

This study explores the Spanish translations of Arthur Miller's play All My Sons, driven by an interest in Miller's work and its limited yet significant translation history in Spain. Despite Miller's success in theater, his plays have seen relatively few Spanish translations. Addressing the gap in understanding stylistic and contextual differences between translations, the research focuses on the 1988 translation by Enrique Llovet (MK Ediciones) and the 2004 translation by Miguel de Hernani (Editorial Losada). By conducting a comprehensive comparison with the original English text, this study categorizes differences into minor and major units of meaning. Methodologically, it involves locating various editions, creating a reception chart, and performing detailed textual analyses, contextualizing translations historically and culturally from the 1950s to the 1980s. The key finding is that the translations reflect significant stylistic and pragmatic variations influenced by their sociopolitical contexts, underscoring the importance of considering both linguistic and extralinguistic factors in translation studies.
